Solar Weather Station

The weather station is a sustainable design that functions as a weather indicator as well as modern home decor. It will get the real-time weather data online and show the current and incoming weather status with light. There will be one still light suggesting the current weather, and another breathing light for the future one in 6 hours. The color of light indicates the temperature range (freezing, chill, warm, hot).
It is powered by a 9v solar panel and a 2500mAh lipo battery. The solar panel would charge the battery during the sunlight time. And the battery would power the weather station during the night.
Once connected to Wi-Fi, the Arduino MKR1010 would request weather data from Open Weather Map API, considering the energy consuption, the update interval is every 5 minutes. We used neonpixels as the light source, the higher the temprature, the warmer the lights.
For the fabrication part, we used pine wood for the base, the shape was modeled with software and milled with a 4 axis CNC router, then applied layers of oil and wax to polish its texture. The patterns on the acrylic was etched by a laser cutter, and with the light underneath on its edge, the light’s diffused through those patterns
